Hosting SSPS-Related Events at NIHONBASHI SPACE WEEK 2025(Updated Information)

Japan Space Systems will host an original event at NIHONBASHI SPACE WEEK 2025, Asia’s largest space business event, held in the Nihonbashi area of Tokyo from Tuesday, October 28 to Friday, October 31 this year.
Please see below for the event overview.

Event Title:        Space Solar Power System (SSPS) – 2025 JSS Activity Report –
Date and Time: Tuesday, October 28, 2025, 1:30 PM – 4:00 PM
Location:            X-NIHONBASHI TOWER (7F, Nihonbashi Mitsui Tower)
Introduction:    Welcome to the forefront of Space Solar Power System (SSPS) research and development.
This is the first public briefing session by Japan Space Systems on two world-first demonstration
                                experiments.
We will also hold a panel discussion. Please feel free to drop by and join the conversation.
Registration: No advance registration is required. Please feel free to drop by on the day.
Survey:      We will distribute survey forms at the venue. We kindly ask that you fill them out.

Program
No.1 “Current Status of Efforts Toward Realizing Space Solar Power Systems”
Speaker: Hiroki Yanagawa, Japan Space Systems (JSS)
Summary:  Based on Japan’s Basic Space Plan and Basic Energy Plan, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI)
and JSS have conducted research and development toward the realization of Space Solar Power System (SSPS).
This presentation will introduce the outline of the roadmap, our past efforts and the current status.

No.2     “Results and Future Prospects of Long-Distance Wireless Power Transmission Demonstration Experiments Using
                Aircraft”
Speaker:     Yoshiyuki Fujino, Toyo University
Summary: To demonstrate long-distance wireless power transmission technology, an aircraft demonstration test was
conducted at the Kirigamine Highlands in December 2024. Among these, as part of the transmitter antenna
performance testing, we conducted experiments to accurately transmit the transmit beam toward the target
and achieved favorable results. We will discuss the significance of this experiment and future prospects.

No.3     “Wireless Power Transmission from Space: Initiatives Toward the OHISAMA Project”
Speaker: Koji Tanaka, Institute of Space and Astronautical Science, JAXA
Summary: In recent years, major countries around the world have been advancing research and development to construct
power plants in satellite orbits, which requires ultra-long-distance wireless power transmission technology.
Following the success of an aircraft-based wireless power transmission experiment conducted last December,
efforts are now underway to conduct wireless power transmission experiments from space. This article
introduces the overview and latest status of these projects.

No.4      “Trends in Lunar Development and Securing and Utilizing Energy”
Speaker: Atsushi Uchida, Mitsubishi Research Institute, Inc.
Summary: This presentation discusses the global progress in lunar development, the securing and utilization of energy
essential for lunar activities, and SSPS-related technologies with potential applications in these areas.

Panel Discussion
Overview: Four panelists will join us for a discussion with attendees on challenges and future prospects for realizing SSPS.
