Ayers Rock

Ayers Rock, the world's second largest free-standing monolith, is located about 350 kilometers southwest of Alice Springs, in the southern part of the Northern Territory, central Australia. It rises 348 meters above the desert floor and has a girth of 9.4 kilometers. Together with Mount Olga, standing about 25 kilometers to its west, Ayers Rock is designated as Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park.

As the both rocky peaks are sacred places to the Australian indigenous Aboriginal people, they are referred to by both English and Aboriginal names, while the national park's name is the Aboriginal one.
Ayers Rock: Uluru (Aboriginal name)
Mount Olga: Kata Tjuta (Aboriginal name)

The park was designated a World Heritage site in 1987.
