The first large-scale civil airport in Japan planned to open on Feb 17th, 2005. It is an offshore airport open 24 hours built approximately 35km south of Nagoya city in Ise Bay off Tokoname, Aichi prefecture. It is nicknamed the "Centrair".

The ASTER data images above show how the airport was constructed in chronological order. After the construction to secure the shore of the airport island, land reclamation work began, and then the roads were constructed.
