Athens, the Capital of Greece (the Hellenic Republic), is located in the south of the Balkan Peninsula, facing the Aegean Sea on the eastern coast and the Ionia Sea on the western coast.
Four million people, which equals to approximately one-third of the entire Greek population, live in this historical city.

Acropolis can be seen at the center of this image and an oval above it is the Parthenon shrine. The Parliament is recognizable on the upper left of the National Garden, and on its upper right can be found the Olympic Stadium that has a horseshoe track and the auditorium made of marble shining brightly.

In 2004, the Summer Olympic games will return to this city after an entire century.
